There’s a place where people spend vacation days and weekends in November sitting in a tree, quiet, cold, and still for hours on end. Sounds crazy, right? That place is the Minnesota Northwoods. November marks the beginning of firearm deer hunting in Minnesota, and call us crazy, but we’ve caught buck fever!
The whitetail deer firearm hunting opener is about more than shooting that trophy buck and becoming the envy of all your friends. It’s about a Minnesota Northwoods tradition that spans multiple generations and brings thousands to the woods year after year. Aside from the adrenaline rush you experience in hunting sports, Minnesota deer hunters tell us it’s also about camaraderie. And if you’re lucky, it’s also cheap way to stock your freezer with dozens of pounds of lean venison for the winter.
If you’re hunting for a thrilling new hobby, hop on the buck bandwagon! Early reports are saying that the 2016 Minnesota whitetail deer population is on the rise. So if you haven’t hunted before, find a friend who has, and be sure to read Minnesota’s deer hunting regulations.
Make this year one to remember by planning your Minnesota deer hunting trip to one of our premiere resorts. Many of the resorts remain open in the winter and would be the perfect place to warm up after a long day of hunting. As a bonus, there are acres of great deer hunting land right in our backyards. All of our Minnesota Northwoods resorts are located within MN hunting zone 100 series, which means you can hunt deer with a firearm from Nov. 5 – Nov. 20, 2016. That’s a full week longer than almost the entire rest of the state!
Plus, with cabins that offer fully furnished kitchens, you can try throw a roast in the crock pot with some carrots and potatoes and you’ll return to a savory dinner, ready to eat! There are plenty of organizations like the food shelf that you can donate your deer meat or deer hide to, if you’re not keen on traveling home with a car full of meat.
This year see what the hype is about and join in the crazy tradition of deer hunting in Minnesota! You just might cross paths with that legendary 30-point buck and get hooked like the rest of us. On behalf of the Minnesota Northwoods, we want to wish you and yours a safe and prosperous hunting season.
