Up in Northern Minnesota, a resort is much more than a place to sleep. It’s a place where memories are born; that little something that makes life meaningful. This is the land of 10,000 memories; a place where grandparents pass on family tradition to grandchildren; a place where stressed-out businessmen exchange neckties for fishing poles; and a place where couples come to celebrate their undying love.
At Minnesota Northwoods, you can enjoy a very special romantic getaway, whether it’s a passionate honeymoon or a tranquil romantic holiday away from your “everyday world”. Cherish each other’s company without distractions, rekindle your passion, and immerse yourselves in the beauty and serenity of endless greenery and spectacular sunset. Celebrating Valentine’s Day, here are a few romantic activities you can enjoy with your special someone in Minnesota Northwoods.
A romantic vineyard picnic
Located on the edge of the Paul Bunyan State Forest, Forestedge Winery and Farm offers it’s visitors a peaceful setting in the woods. Enjoy the gardens and cobblestone patio, taste their elegant fruit wines and visit the gallery with art and fine crafts made by MN artisans. Pack a picnic lunch and share wine by the glass or bottle on the patio while reminiscing about the first time you two met.
Canoe on lake
Paddle along the lake by canoe, kayak or paddle boat, freely available to guests at any of our Minnesota Northwoods resorts. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the shore, from loons and bald eagles to otters, wolves, and deer. Ride the gentle current back to the resort and claim a front-row seat along the shoreline to enjoy spectacular sunsets, prime star-gazing and listening to the loons, while whispering sweet nothings.
A stroll through downtown Bemidji
Our Minnesota Northwoods resorts are located near the “big little town” of Bemidji, Minnesota. Hop in the car and head downtown for a romantic small town date. Stroll through the historic Bemidji Woolen Mills outfitters, sample fudge at the local chocolate shop, or tour one of the many antique shops. Grab hand-dipped ice cream at Big River Scoop and enjoy a stroll around Lake Bemidji. And don’t forget to take an obligatory photo with the famous Paul and Babe statues. At the end of the day, enjoy a candlelit dinner with your special someone over the seasonal menu made from scratch at Tutto Bene, picked as “romantic restaurant worth the trip.”
Writer George William Curtis wrote, “Romance like a ghost escapes touching; it is always where you are not, not where you are. The interview or conversation was prose at the time, but it is poetry in the memory.” A Minnesota romantic getaway may not be vacation full of glamour and splendor. But a Minnesota resort vacation is about building memories: gazing into each other’s eyes and knowing you love each other; remembering why you fell in love in the first place, away from the stress of everyday distractions. Visit Minnesota Northwoods this year for your romantic retreat, and tell your significant other “thank you, for standing by my side, always and forever.”
