Visiting Camp Rabideau allows you and your family to step back in time and explore some history of the Minnesota Northwoods.
In the 1930s, there were 2,650 Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camps in America. These camps were built in 1935 as a result of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “New Deal.” Camp Rabideau is one of three remaining camps and has been preserved, having been placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. The CCC camps provided skills, money, and happy memories to more than 250,000 young men that were scraping by during the Great Depression. Camps were run jointly by the U. S. Forest Service, which still manage the camps today, and the U.S. Army, which commanded the camps.
The camp is located 6 miles south of Blackduck, Minnesota on County Road 39. Enjoy a self-guided walk through the camp along the one-mile trail that runs through Camp Rabideau with interpretive displays highlight the buildings and history of the area. A picnic shelter is available and hiking trail winds through the camp area.
